NASCAR was founded in the
late 1940's by William H. G. "Bill" France. The first season of
NASCAR racing with a modified stock car event took place on the
15th February 1948. The season compromised over 50 races,
there were different saloons tuned to give better performance than
a standard car. This sport was known for close competition,
thrills and spills and driving styles.

Today's
NASCAR, is more high tech with all modern day materials and equipment.
Producing faster and safer cars
that look nothing like the modern day car. This has now become one of
the biggest events in the US.
The Winston Cup series is
America's most popular form of Motorsport and is renowned for
being incredibly competitive and entertaining. Manufacturers are
allowed to clothe a stout tube-frame chassis in their own bodywork
and fit their own V8 engine. The cars are tweaked to ensure close
competition, and close control is kept on power outputs and
aerodynamics, but the V8 powered machines are never less than
spectacular. Racing on a variety of ovals, from 200mph super
speedways to half-mile ovals, the Cup also includes events at the
famous Watkins Glen and Sears Point road courses. The Busch Grand
National series is a secondary series, although some Winston Cup
racers still compete. |
